Downton Abbey Photos Reveal Time Jump in Season 5

Every season of Downton Abbey has featured a fairly sizable time jump—the show kicked off with the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, and when last we saw the Crawleys, four short seasons later, it was already the summer of 1923. But between the ageless, ivory complexions of the younger ladies and the timeless institution that is the Dowager Countess, we haven’t really seen that time pass in anywhere other than higher hems and lower necklines. But now there’s a new generation at Downton, and the cherubic babies that we saw last season are already toddling. Here’s your first glimpse at baby Sybil and baby George in Season 5.

It’s absolutely perfect that young Sybil would be shown with her father, Tom, but that young George would pose with a servant. Presumably Lady Mary was too busy being mean to poor Edith to bother to show up. Season 5 premieres January 4, 2015.
